Delivery Locations
Every PO created in Purchase Control describes where the goods or services are to be “delivered”. For goods based orders, this will be the physical location for delivery – the destination for the relevant carrier. For service based orders, this location is a record of where the services should be carried out.
Each PO can only have a single delivery location; the destination for ALL the goods or services. Recording separate delivery locations for particular parts/items of the order is not catered for in Purchase Control. If different destinations are required, the order should be broken up into several POs each of which with the most appropriate delivery location for the items therein.
Managing risk with delivery locations:
Allowing for “delivery” of goods or services to unauthorized locations represents a risk. Controlling the delivery location is a simple risk management practice that can be enforced with Purchase Control. Users can be configured so that they MUST select from pre-existing, authorized locations rather than providing their own input. In this way, the system administrator can be sure that the destination of any goods or services purchased/ordered on behalf of the company is an appropriate one.
